About Lohra Miller
In 1992, Lohra began her career in public service as an assistant city attorney for West Jordan City. In addition to her work in prosecution, Lohra’s duties in West Jordan and with other cities over the next 14 years gave her valuable experience preparing her for her role as a legal advisor on civil issues to Salt Lake County. First elected in 2006, Lohra has made incredible changes to the DA's office which have made a real difference in the lives of Salt Lake County residents.
Lohra and her husband, Lorenzo Miller, married in 1986 after meeting as students at Brigham Young University. They both attended the J. Reuben Clark School of Law where Lorenzo graduated in 1990 and Lohra in 1992. The couple has four children ages 22-14. Their oldest son, Steven, has completed BUDS to be a Navy SEAL and is in the last stages of his training. The other three children—David, Lohra Mickelle and, Cameron—are all students here in the Salt Lake Valley.
In 2006, Lohra promised voters to bring change to an office that had been substantially unchanged for 25 years. While making these promised changes, she became a nationally recognized leader in criminal justice ethics and reform. In 2008 she was selected to be co-chair of the National District Attorney's Association's Ethics and Services Committee and in 2009 to be the American Bar Association Criminal Justice Section's co-chair of the Ethics, Gideon & Professionalism Committee. She has participated in projects at the Department of Justice and other national criminal justice organizations which seek to identify best criminal justice practices aimed at maximizing money spent on protecting our community.
Lohra has a plan for the future of the district attorney's office and for SL County's criminal justice system. She believes that our criminal justice community verges on the tipping point to incredible criminal justice reform that will drastically improve the quality of justice, while reducing costs. This collaborative effort with the Third District Court, Criminal Justice Services, Adult Probation and Parole, the Sheriff's office, local law enforcement and many others will increase the number of jail beds available to law enforcement, without increasing the burden on the taxpayer or building new jails.
With over eighteen years as a public attorney and prosecutor in our community, Lohra knows what it takes to be your district attorney. What’s more, she remains willing to be a strong advocate for your safety and make the hard decisions necessary to keep our community a great place to live.
As District Attorney, Lohra puts you and the law first. At every turn, she does what is necessary to make you safe and obtain justice. Lohra believes justice is more than just punishing offenders. There is a smarter way to make our community safe. There is a way to help criminals be productive members of society. There is a way to help victims move forward and overcome their victimization. There is a way to stop the crime that affects all of us on a daily basis. They key is to remember the big picture.
Being District Attorney isn’t about staying out of the headlines or trying to just “get by” with what we have. It isn’t about how others can’t do the job or vague plans for mediocre stop-gap changes. Being District Attorney is about bold action. It is about having a vision and being willing to make the tough choices necessary to make that vision a reality. Lohra wants to continue as your District Attorney because she has paid the price necessary to obtain her vision, and she can see the returns. Investing in specialized prosecution units and technological advancement has positioned the DA’s Office to make a major jump. Lohra wants to see the D.A.’s Office through that transition and secure our future safety.

She is looking for proactive solutions to the problems that have too long plagued our community. Under DA Miller, the DA’s Office has taken a number of positive steps. Now, it is time to move forward. Lohra can see the future ahead and wants to lead us there.
